Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been mesmerized by the magic of the legends, fairy tales, & stories. My mom would tell folktales & myths to me and my other siblings, from the Bisayan culture she grew up with.
For my love of stories, dark, whimsical & fantasy-based I decided to make a story of my own. And this character is one of my conjured-up entities where I drew inspiration from the seemingly antagonists in beloved fairy tales & stories, myths that I’ve read. (Think of Rumpelstiltskin, the devil on the Faust legends, the sea witch in little mermaid etc.) And this is my take-on the oft-told tales with a twist.
Character Story: “The White-Winged Devil”
Straight from another parallel of dimension, welcome the White-Winged Devil. She is considered as an “Angel from the Depths of Hell.” Different from the other devils that buys the souls of mortal men in exchange of power, money, or any other wish they want, but in exchange of a high price, the White-Winged Devil sells souls. Yes, you read it right. She’s into selling of souls instead of buying them. You may find it weird but for the clients who want nothing but to exact sweet revenge to the people who’ve great fully sinned against them, she’s the angel that “answers their prayers.”
“Too bad he/she gets to die only once. I’m willing to pay even at a high price just to kill him/her for the second time…or for many millions of times! I never want him/her to rest in peace!”
For clients who want the pleasure of torturing the human soul of the person they greatly detest, rather than let the cleansing of purgatory or rotting in hell occur, the white-winged devil may come in handy. She lives in another dimension and any mortal’s soul that gets trapped in there can never come back, unless it’s her who releases the soul.
But as I’ve said earlier, there’s this high price. Selling souls is a risky business you see, for it’s like offering exotic goods in the black market. Satan & the other devils will surely punish her if they caught her selling souls especially the ones already listed in hell. In exchange of the soul, you must make a sacrifice. See the axe she’s holding? No, don’t think of your death as payment. She doesn’t need your death, but instead your eternal agony. You must sacrifice a part of your body in return. It’s up to you to choose which body part you’d like to give up. Be also warned. Any person who had made an accord with the white-winged devil decides to cheat on her or disregards their agreement will get a very ugly punishment. Those grotesque beasties she has as pets where she rides on will devour the person alive.
Just my luck, before I saw this contest, I had already made this character of mine! So I decided to join in and try my luck. This is my 2nd time to join a drawing contest here in DA. Line Art: Dong-Ah Gel pen, Worx station board paper. I originally planned to draw another character beside her, but there was no more space left in the paper!
